Where We Work

Wandutso Trust operates in Mutasa District of Manicaland Province in Zimbabwe. The district has a total population of approximately 197,800 people from about 39,500 households. Of the total population, approximately 88,300 are women while about 59,600 are youths.

Why an initial focus on Ward 13 of Mutasa District?

Ward 13 is situated in Mutasa District of Manicaland Province in eastern Zimbabwe. Due to its general high elevation and sub-tropical location, Ward 13 lies in the cool temperate climate belt of Zimbabwe and is suitable for producing a wide range of agricultural produce. The terrain is hilly with fragile marginal soils prone to erosion and general land degradation. Regardless, smallholder crop and livestock farming remain the major livelihood sources for the majority of families complemented, where available, with incomes from formal and informal employment, and remittances from family members in towns, the diaspora, and elsewhere.

Like in many other parts of the district, Ward 13 has not been spared from the negative impacts of climate change. In addition, the limited or lack of adequate resources over the decades has made it increasingly difficult for local authorities and communities to maintain some of the social fabric pillars and networks, academic and public health excellence, and economic vibrancy of the area. Wandutso Trust hopes to contribute to restoring and enhancing some of these characteristics and features of Ward 13 and surrounding communities as the starting point for Wandutso Trust.
