History

  • Wandutso Trust is a community-based philanthropic, non-governmental, non-political organization registered in Zimbabwe with the goal of contributing to sustainable community development in Manicaland Province. Registered in 2021 under the National Deeds Act, Wandutso Trust was founded by a group of family and friends who shared a similar vision towards improved rural livelihoods and sustainable rural development from as far back as 2016. The notion „charity begins at home“ is of fundamental value to this group of family and friends.

  • Most of the Co-founders and Founding Trustees were born and raised in rural Zimbabwe where they also attended their primary and secondary education. They experienced a dynamic evolution of their socio-cultural, economic, physical spaces, and environmental surroundings. Appreciating their rural upbringing, development trends and professional experience, this group of family and friends endeavors to remain connected to their roots and contribute to holistic enhancement of rural livelihoods, reminiscent in the famous saying that – ‘It takes a whole village to raise a child’.

  • Wandutso is a Shona language word from Zimbabwe that portrays positive change and enhancement. This spirit of enhancement is further embodied by the gradient of colours and disappearing gaps, and the symbol of a bridge on the Trust’s logo.

  • Formalities to enable Wandutso Trust to start operating on the ground in Mutasa District were completed in August 2025.

OUR VISION

Wandutso Trust envisions rural communities that are prolific and vibrant, well-nourished, healthy, skilled, economically empowered for resilient livelihoods, and whose environments and ecosystems are well-nurtured.

OUR MISSION

Wandutso Trust strives to spur holistic sustainable development and empower rural communities. We seek to inspire and motivate the rural communities to unleash their pro-growth energy and to express their positive talents, creativity and potential in enhancing their livelihoods while embracing indigenous knowledge systems / citizen science, modern science and technological advances.

We focus especially on vulnerable groups that are often marginalized in society – like women, children, youth, those with different forms of disability and chronic conditions, and the elderly. With the Leave No-one Behind (LNB) approach, Wandutso Trust also recognizes the key roles that men play in the communities.

Respect for communities, diverse cultures, and people
Social, economic, environmental responsibility & stewardship
Innovation, motivation, mutual learning and co-creativity
